  • Hello, As you can tell, I'm a novice with computers at best. I kept getting pops ups from 'Driver Support'. I uninstalled the program but am still getting a pop up saying Driver Support has stopped working. I don't know if this was a M/S program or what.

isn't required. It would help to know the model number of the board. Does it support the higher 667MHz FSB used by the T2300? If not, it's probably running at 1.33GHz instead of 1.66GHz but that shouldn't have anything to do with the system hanging. You should list all the specs so we have a better idea of what you're working with. All I can tell from the CPUs you mentioned is that it's old stuff, so it's not worth much & not worth throwing much money at.

Are you sure you mounted the heatsink on the CPU correctly? And used the correct amount of thermal paste, applied properly? Have you monitored the temps to make sure it's not overheating? Or tested the RAM with memtest86? How much do you have? Microsoft claims 512MB is the minimum for Vista Basic but I think the amount is understated. You should really have 1GB or more for decent performance.

Repeat this step for the other keyboard latches
